Something I noticed the other day is that when I accelerate, my car makes a little whistling noise. At first i thought it was the wind going over a certain edge of my car somewhere, but it's coming from my engine bay. I really don't know what could be doing it, but it does worry me. My car was sideswiped about 4 months ago icon_evil.gif ,and I really hadn't noticed anything wrong with the engine, but I noticed this last weekend. Any thoughts??

alternator. lots of things whistle, but you need to locate where in the engine bay, my guess is the alternator because i have the same problem right now.

could the "whistling" also be defined as a squeaking. Check your belts and pulleys and make sure the pulleys havent gone too tight or too loose on you. Also check the belt. It may have a few cracks and loosend up.

Just a few other things to check amoung those already mentioned.

the whistling is common when you do intake mods...did you remove your resonator before you put your intake on?

whistling...does it come and go? is it more like a squealing than a whistle? can u reproduce this at idle? or when u rev it in park/N? if u can then carefully search around the accessories. this may be a bearing on one of the accessories starting to go. just be careful when ur under there. if u need to use a long extension and probe the area CAREFULLY and use it as a stethescope.

No VTEC... It whistles when I'm reving and in motion. I don't really hear it in N/park. I will have all my belts and such checked this weekend. I know for damn sure it isn't my intake, cause like I said... this was happening before I put it in.

if it was a vacuum leak the idle would be rough.

it wasnt in the jeep. it was a tube coming out of the valve cover and going to the intake. PCV valve maybe?

It idles at a little under 1000 rpms, but it always done that since i got the car. Well, no, it idled at 1000, maybe a little over when i got it, but it doesn't seem like it's rough. It does kinda worry me when it gets down to about 500 or lower when i'm at a stop light, tho. Need a tune up, that's the best I can figure.

the whisteling is common with after market intakes... and you said it whistled before the intake... did you remove your resonator before then??? because that would make it audible....and for the low idle problem.. you might want to try cleaning your IACV...i have to do the same... its f-ing with my warm idle

your car could be about to die completely. but thats the worst that could happen, if it happened before the intake and everything, think about when exactly did it start. could be the belts could be the alternator itselft. whistling is made by many things. locate exactly where it is coming from. we could tell you probably 20 things that could be wrong but the best addvice anyone can really offer until hearing it themselves and looking for it, is to see a mechanic.
