Anyone have this camera? I've been trying to get pics on my computer with Windows 98 and it won't work. Do you think I need newer windows or what?

Your Nikon should work with Win98 Second Edition, Win2000 Pro, WinME and WinXP. If you have Win98 and NOT Second Edition then you might want to upgrade your OS.

There's also a firmware upgrade available but I dont' think it corrects the problem that you are having. You can go HERE to get it.

You can also go HERE for troubleshooting help on Nikon's site.

Hope that helps.

I think the problem might be 1st edition. I honestly didnt know there were 2 editions. I'm pretty sure were getting a new computer this summer so that'll fix the problem.

I'm guessing that your camera connects to your computer via a USB cable.... correct? Have you ever gotten any USB device to work properly with your computer yet? If not, it may be that USB support is not enabled on your computer.

Do this to find out.....

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click System.
3. Click the Device Manager tab.
4. Click the PLUS SIGN (+) beside Universal Serial Bus Controller to expand the branch.

If Universal Serial Bus Controller is not listed in Device Manager, USB support may not be enabled in your computer's BIOS. Reboot your computer and go into it's BIOS and enable USB support.

Once you get it enabled you can go back and do the above procedures and then...

5. Under Universal Serial Bus Controller, you should see the following components:

*PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
*USB Root Hub

Hope that helps.

USB is definately enabled because I have 6 things hooked up via USB. The camera was the only one not to work.
