One 15inch L7 powered by a MTX 1501D/81000D. The sub would be places in a 3 cubic foot sealed box or ported (at 3 cubic feet I can do either). I know the sub could handle this amount of power at idle listerening levels but what about say if I want to crank it up and really push this mono block. Could the sub on the other end of the equation hold itself together?
Thanks, Chris |

OK, if you get the 4ohm voice coils then that amp is perfect! On the other hand...if u got 2 ohm voice coils...that amp WILL KILL your sub. If you've got the 2ohm voice coils get the 801D amp that will work just right with the 2ohm coils!

But the sub is only designed for 1000 watts RMS and 1501D/81000D bench over 1000 watts RMS at 12 voltsmost of the time. Will Kicker be able to take it?

MTX says the 1501D pushes exactly 500 watts RMS x 2 (at 12.9 volts). I think the Solo should be able to take it. If you were saying that MTX amps usually produce more than the advertised power...i think the solo still should have no prob. Its Max power is 2000 watts so if the amp runs a lil more than the RMS rating for the sub (1000 watts) then i think it should still work fine.

http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/MTX1501D Not to sure where you got the 500 X 2 figure from. The 1501D is MTX's biggest monoblock.

Wow...monoblock...duh! I was saying the rating was for a two channel. But here lemme figure it all out. Ok. www.sounddomain.com 's figures are based on 14.4 Volts. However, chances are your electrical system is a lot closer to the 12.9 which is on MTX's website. http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/amplifiers/thunder1501D.cfm Ok, so you wire your voice coils in parallel to present a 2 ohm load to the amp which then answers back with 1000 watts of power, the perfect amount for the sub...there. It finally makes sense.[/url]

Ok, how can the rating be for a 2 channel if the amp is a monoblock? Next, if Cerwin does run this amp, and he's getting 12.9 volts, he has problems. He's going to run in to a lot of dimming and stuff like that if he can't get better voltage. But in final thought, the sub will take it without even sweating. Ben had a JBL 1200.1 hooked up to his 15L7 for the longest time and it never flinched... When we WANTED to blow it, it took a good 15+minutes of free air test tones to kill it. And the JBL will put at 1400 watts at 14.4 volts. MTX's site says "Dynamic Power" @ 14.4 volts is 1500 watts... I assume that Dynamic Power is Max power b/c they give the 12v power as RMS... you should see a max of 1200 watts RMS if you give the amp correct voltage. I haven't seen a bench on them in a good 2 years so I don't know how underrated they are now. But the sub should be fine regardless. Just be smart w/ it. Break it in, Don't play below tuning, etc. |

Dynamic power simply means that the reading was taken at 14.4 volts. An RMS rating of 1000 watts and a max rating of only 1500 would be ridiculous.
