Aken's Painted Wheels Journey - January, 2006

Thursday, January 5th - 11:30 PM

Ahh, yes. It has started!

So I called my good friend Nick (aka Bober) earlier this week, and told him something along the lines of "Bober, we're painting my wheels Thursday and Friday. Leave both days open." To which he responded "You better have Mountain Dew for me." Now if you know me at all, you know I have Mountain Dew.

Fast forward to this evening. Bober and I head out to our friendly not-so-neighborhood (we were across town at the time) Auto Zone to buy schtuff.

Ingredients for this project?

- Gray Primer
- Red Paint
- Clear Coat
- Emery Cloth (Sand Paper)

And already had items:

- Wheel & Tire Cleaner
- Good cloths, SOS pands came in handy, etc...
- Painters masks, tape, and plastic.
- Newspaper

Let the fun begin!

Two passenger wheels removed, just sprayed with wheel and tire cleaner, letting it soak and do its magic.

This was my right-front wheel. My brakes went nasty on me not too long ago, and enjoyed throwing brake dust and metal shavings all over my passenger side. The wheel took the most of it, obviously. It's just caked with crap.

Here's Bober working on cleaning dat sum'*****:

Aha, good as new! For now, at least....

And here's my car sitting in the driveway on stands. Appropriate glow added for coolness.

Now with Whelens, just for **** and giggles:

Couple photos of me sanding a wheel. What a freaking tedious process...

And here's one wheel fully sanded. It's only partially masked off like that because the point was to keep the "polished lip" from being sanded by accident. The tape will then be removed, wheel will be cleaned, then fully masked off ready for paint!

That's my update as of right now. I promise at least one more before bed tonight. Hopefully one with some painted wheels!

It is a steam cleaner, we have one just like that one. Works great for breaking loose grime or brake dust (Aken's pics are proof of that).

Eh?

I have it, and it will. But no sense in doing it when I still need to handle the wheels. I'd just get tire **** all over me.
