I live in NJ I am going to have a flowlighting Blaze kit on my car, and I know that passing inspection with it is going to be a pain. However, I have heard of places where i can get this passed. Does anyone know of any places in NJ, or know of any way I can ask/persuade the inspectee to pass me?[/b]

its legal to have lights for shows. So as long as your parked, you won't get a ticket for the lights. You should have no problem with inspection.

in some states its illegal to have them mounted on your car at all.

i would just take them off go throught the inspection and then put them back on.
if you get caught bribing the inspector your gonna be in a world of ****.

a few years back in NYC I had my inspection done and when the car was driven onto the lift they cracked the drivers side neon, I started to ***** about it and they immediately tried to tell me that they should fail my car cause of it. I explained to them um yeah if I am not mistaken I can have what ever lights I want to mounted on my car and as long as I don't use them on the street it's all good. The manager came over and said I was right, but they wouldn't pay for the shattered tube as they werent responsible icon_twisted.gif

Ohhh damn that sucks, I feel your pain. I really dont comprehend why the law lets you buy them, if they are going to give you crap for them a mile down the road. If the law was TRUELY concered that they are a distraction/hazard for drivers, they would make them illegal to buy. The only thing I can think is that they are just scam the money out of us.

no. u will have a problem with inspection. i live in nj. I have a SG gold series, once i got through with no problems, but the last time i went, they saw a tube when they taken the mirror and check for the cat. Pull the fuse on the switch for ALL of your neons when u go, so if they flip anything, nothing turns on.

-it IS ILLEGAL to have neon tubes installed anywhere in ur car in nj. Trust me, i had a huge fight with them last time i went. Make sure none of ur tubes are visible, inside and out. If you install ur UB kit right, meaning hidden, you really shouldnt have any problems. You can also if you want, take out the tube on the side of ur cat. converter...that way they wont see anything when they check for it.

I e-mailed a police officer about them. If anyone wants ill post you what he said. From my understanding, having LEDs on my car might not be problem. I think only using them certain ways is. Should i post it?

He did not type anything, but simply copy and pasted the law as written:

directly in front of a vehicle as authorized by this subtitle, shall exhibit
lights substantially white, yellow or amber in color.

(a) The color of light emitted or reflected by exterior lamps or
reflectors on a vehicle shall be as follows, except as otherwise
provided in paragraph (b), (c) and (d) of this section:

White when the lamp is a headlamp, or spot lamp, or illuminates a
license plate or a destination sign; or is located on the outside limit
of a side car or other attachment on a motor cycle;

Substantially white or amber when the lamp is a side-cowl or fender
lamp, running-board or other courtesy lamp, front parking lamp, back-up
lamp, auxiliary driving lamp; or a turn signal on or facing the front;

Substantially red or amber when the lamp is a turn signal or a stop
lamp on or facing the rear;

Red when any other lamp or any reflector is on the rear or on
either side at or near the rear, except as otherwise provided in paragraph
(f) of section 39:3-61 for a combination marker lamp;

Amber when any other lamp or reflector is on the front or on either
side other than at or near the rear.

(b) Lamps and reflectors on projecting loads shall emit or reflect
light with color as provided in section 10 of this act.

(c) No person shall drive or move any vehicle or equipment upon any

(d) A permit authorizing a vehicle to be equipped with a lamp
capable of or displaying a flashing light, except as provided in 39:3-54 or
a light of a color other than permitted by this section, visible from
directly in front of said vehicle, may be issued by the director when
necessary, in his discretion, for the reasonable and safe movement of
traffic. The permit shall specify the type and color of such lamp and the
conditions under which a person may drive or move the vehicle with said

having leds inside ur car, hidden properly will be ok. Cuz they cant see them. Having led tubes, or ANY "aftermarket neon lamp" mounted to the underside of any vehicle is illegal in nj. when u go for inspection, if they see a tube, they will fail u and make u take them off.

im telling u the law, as i have had to deal with inspection in NJ for 4 years now. Ive been shown the book and the exact law many times.

now that I think about it a tiburon in my car club went and got inspected and they were giving him a hard time for having red bulbs in his courtesy lights inside the car. He argued with them that they are in the car, the dome light and the lights on the lower part of the doors. And they ended up passing him.
