useless because you could never legally drive with them on and they are worthless unless they are spinning.

That's ridiculous .. they already have spinners, if they're applying power to the wheel anyway why didn't they just motorize a spinning rim and then mount the LED's on the rotating portion ? Then you could have an image regardless of the car's speed .
How do you power a wheel anyway ? Don't you have to somehow get a wire from a stationary part of the car to connect to a rotating part of the car ? .. ??? icon_neutral.gif

22" package with Pirelli tires ($12,500.00)
24" package with Pirelli tires ($15,000.00)
26" package with Pirelli tires ($19,500.00)

Here's another video

Also, it doesn't say how fast you need to be going, but I imagine not very fast. According to this page, which is for a much cheaper (DIY) version for bicycles...

Quote:
With one spoke, total persistence at 15mph. Two spokes, 10mph. Three spokes, 7mph. (Assuming a mountain bike wheel). Looks cool even if not completely persistant.

It looks like these have 3 "spokes" that light up, so probably about 7MPH.

These look cool and all but this company needs a new marketing team ... "pimpstar"?

I've been musing over this for a while, it's difficult to see it as a "bolt on" for people's own wheels, so it's something that has to be built into a custom rim. That kind of puts it out of the question for most people.

If it was a cheaper add-on then it would work as a "fun item" but it would only be practical to fix one line of LEDs. This has two issues - balance and rotation speed before a reasonable image was formed. The other thing is just how ghetto it would look... just how would it be attached?

Well, you could hide the board behind a hubcap...but who wants hubcaps.

I think the main issue is that it requires a magnet to be mounted on the chassis (normally mounted on the fork of a bike) so that the sensor can sense when the spoke passesa known point in order to set the correct rate. This would be pretty hard.

It's only one color, but Tiretagz have been out for a while. They attach to your existing wheels. http://www.tiretagz.com/index.php
