It'll be a real challenge getting any sort of picture up on them. But if you do, I just love the idea of making a ghetto video projector...

You'd probably be better off getting the laptops running again (you didn't say if they were damaged, just old) and selling them, or donating them to a nursing home or church or something.

in the next to last picture, you can see a bunch of old laptops, those are what would be used (IBM's) the one in the picture is a different brand, im not quite sure what kind.

So Rags- you say those are tlt?? I really know nothing about lcd screens, so please fill me in.

tlt is a kind of lcd screen, its the desirable kind for video feed and such and those arent them. i could be wrong on alot of this though.
your best bet is to get the broken ones cheap off ebay and fix them.

well, the reason that I was asking is because a teacher at my has them just sitting around, and told me I can have them if I want, so I was wondering if there was something cool that I could do for basically free with them.

I believe the old member Type R bass tried this and it was a mess and the end result would not be worth the hassle. But www.mp3car.com would be an awesome source for this post some photos with all the specs you can come up and see what you get for a response, they have been great to me in the past. Good Luck.

DIYProjectorCompany.com wrote:

A DIY Projector uses a small, bright, white light source, a transmissive LCD panel, and a large format objective lens to project a motion image from your DVD player, video game console, or cable box onto a projection screen. Image sizes range to nearly every end of the spectrum starting at about 40" and stretching to a typical 100" diagonal screen size, though technically you can go to an infinitely large projection size.

The project is based on LCD screens. icon_wink.gif

Think about the Overhead Projectors you see in class for projecting A4 transparencies... put an LCD screen on top instead and you get "the big picture".

I see......i might try to make one of those, one problem...these are laptop's, and i would have to figure out which wire is the video input, and make them RCA, or something like that

Edit: I checked their forum, and apparently laptop's are extremely hard to do, or I could use a $200 LCD controller, so I am probably going to scrap that idea

wow $200 for a controller to get video on the screens!? That is wayyy to much for me. If I wanted to spend a whole bunch of money, I would buy something that I know is going to work. Looks like I wont need to purchase them, but thanks anyways.
