I know some eclipses get rust really bad, check the engine bay very closely, and in the trunk. It's a hit or miss with those cars

For the most part its a pretty reliable car if you don't mod it out that much. I think the 95 and 96's had a little more of a problem with ECU's crappin out and some little things like headlights turning yellow pretty badly. If its a GS or RS though, it's gonna be SLLOOWWWW unless you plan to turbo it or something.

beware that if it has typical "ricey" mods on it that it was probably owned by someone who was just trying to make the car fast on the cheap and beat the hell out of it.

I want something with a little more room and potential. The fieros fun and has nice torque but its an auto and id rather have something more "tuner friendly"

Eh, Non-Turbo Eclipse isn't worth "Tuning". It's not worth trying to get decent power out of those engines.

That was sort of my point about trying to get power out of it. It isn't worth trying to turbo the Non-urbo Eclipse motor. Even the ones with tons of money and time into them barely break 13s.

I wouldn't pay that much for it. I was under the impression a mint would still be under 5k. High mileage is a big thing to watch out for on any turbo car also.

dont buy it, only way you could turbo that thing is to buy a turbo engine...preferably a 6-bolt out of 1g eclipse/talon/laser. better off just buying a gsx.

you can't just drop a 4g63 engine in that thing. well you could but the headache with it just isn't worth it. the 420a engine isn't that bad though. it can handle about 250hp with stock internals and if you get forged internals it can handle a lot more. Theres a lot of guys from 2gnt.com that are running 300whp and over with a 420a engine. Plus with the 420a engine u dont hafta worry about crankwalk like the 4g63's

420a is the RS/GS engine. It's made by chrysler not mitsu. the 4g63 is the GST/GSX engine, it's the one made by mitsu. The 420a can actually be made fast, regardless of what people think. The head is good to like 400hp and the block is real strong. If you really wanna boost the crap outta the engine you hafta replace the internals with forged ones and tune it well. Theres lots of guys that run 15psi daily and 22 at the track with no problems.
