I live in VA and own a mustang. I want to put a horse decal on the back windshield of my car. It's about 36 inches wide. Is this legal to have? Anyone? Thanks.

If the police wants to be a **** he can probaly pull you over for it. Might as well put it on and see what happens. In PA, vinyl strips across the windshield and across the back windshield are illegal but everyone around here has them. I only know one person who had to take it off, He go pulled over for speeding and the cop made him take all his tint off. It just depends on the cop.

i used to have a huge ass pontiac symbol on my back window. could barely see out the back because it was damn near the size of the whole window and never got pulled over. I finally got sick of not being able to see and took it off and replaced it with a MUCH smaller one icon_cool.gif

they are legal icon_cool.gif

only on the front window are you not supposed to have them...given that it hangs 3" below the window line, which most of them do....you shouldnt have any problems

wi law states your back window can be opaque as long as you have side mirrors. as stated above though, cops can be picky about it, just like tint. they might not want to ticket you for the tint, but they just use it as an excuse to pull you over.

think about it, cargo vans have no rearward visibility, even if they do have small rear windows. gotta use the side ones.

Staright from Virginia Code 46.2-1052:

B. Notwithstanding the foregoing provisions of this section, whenever a motor vehicle is equipped with a mirror on each side of such vehicle, so located as to reflect to the driver of such vehicle a view of the highway for at least 200 feet to the rear of such vehicle, any or all of the following shall be lawful:

1. To drive a motor vehicle equipped with one optically grooved clear plastic right-angle rear view lens attached to one rear window of such motor vehicle, not exceeding 18 inches in diameter in the case of a circular lens or not exceeding 11 inches by 14 inches in the case of a rectangular lens, which enables the driver of the motor vehicle to view below the line of sight as viewed through the rear window;

2. To have affixed to the rear side windows, rear window or windows of a motor vehicle any sticker or stickers, regardless of size; or

3. To drive a motor vehicle when the driver's clear view of the highway through the rear window or windows is otherwise obstructed

meaning if you have two side mirrors, you can obstruct the rear window in any way you see fit.

Does that mean you can have very dark rear tint, too? I've been wanting to back my red tint with mirror to get a cool effect, but I've not done it for fear of being pulled over for it being too dark.

in most states you could spraypaint the rear window black so long as you have functional side mirrors.

I found this link a couple days ago. Figure it may help on this subject a little.

May have to copy/paste the link in a new browser window. For some reason it doesn't want to work right when clicking on it
