I know we have some Xbox modders out there, and I have no clue about them at all. I don't play games anymore, but I think I may want to pick up an xbox to make a XBMC. If anyone knows about this stuff, please PM me or IM me. I've got a couple n00b questions, and I honestly don't want to read through all this stuff because it looks endless. http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/

I'll be waiting.... sleeping.gif

Well I know nothing about them, so what are my options? I know there are a lot of different mods, which one do I need to get? Anyone know any trust worthy guys that can mod for me? I don't want to upgrade the HD because I only plan on streaming the music and movies. Also, I read that I cannot play divx movies on the Xbox. Is there a hack that gets me around this? I like my "home movies". If not, no big deal. I don't think I need the plasma for a crappy cam film.

I also want to upgrade the audio out to the digital audio connection (I've read about that mod, and it looks easy enough). Are there any mods to turn the Xbox in to an up-convert so I get a little better video out too? Component RGB would be awesome :D

Start giving me links :-d

CHIPMOD! dont **** with softmods. yes its quite cheap, free even but its not worth it.
i run xecuter lite (2.3?) solderless chips with the pogo pins.

chipping basically replaces/bypasses the onboard bios. you will still need to find a bios for the chip (not included!) new dash, software, etc, which, notably is illegal since it is compiled with microsoft proprietary software, bla bla bla. it takes alot of time to learn.

you can get hi def output (480p/720p/1080i) with the high definition av pack from microsoft. should run about $30. might be hard to find locally. this will include the capability to output to optical audio, stereo audio, and component (red/blue/green) video.

xbmc will upgrade to i BELIEVE 720p or 1080i i cant remember which. i have an hdmi upconvert dvd player which from what ive read works better than xbmc ever will. i dont think xbmc will play divx, but its not something ive checked into since i dont use it. should be google-able.

xbox-scene.com - the only site you will ever need.

I will be buying an upconvert DVD player (HDMI) for my DVD's. This is more for a quick and easy way to connect my computer to my HT.

Silent, do you have an xbmc? What is your setup exactly?

All I want out of the box is a 780p video and digital audio. biglaugh.gif Is that too much to ask? biglaugh.gif

i have a modded box with a hacked version of XBMC. i just use it for pics and vids and music that i have on the HD.

Im running a V1.0 Xbox with Xecuter3CE modchip with the wire install.

Does everything i want it to do, only thing i want now is a bigger HD. that lil 200 gig is packed. anyone know where i can get a nice 300 or a 350?

pros and cons for soft mod vs hard?

and no one knows of any sites that will do this to my xbox as a service? This girl I used to see has a bf that does this a lot I think.... as awkward as it may be, I might try to get him to do it.

or buy the chip (solderless) and send the box and chip to me. ill do it. ive got everything laying around to get er done. pay the shipping to get it back to ya and im happy.

silent - how do you plan to get all your existing stuff over to that new 300? from my experience, with a softmod its a horrible horrible pain in the ass.

i would say there is only one downfall to having a solderless chip, and that is they are a bit sensitive to shock. as in, they can come out of line on the board when moving the box. not at all hard to fix, though.

i typed this all out for someone before, but i dont recommend softmodding unless you feel like being the tech to troubleshoot when something goes wrong, and things DO go wrong alot with softmods, and they are quite sensitive to change, especially in inexperienced hands.

I ftp it to my computer, then ftp it back once the drive is in.

I can do the softmod for you if you want. I can do it and have it out and back to you same day. I haven't had one problem with any of my softmods. EVER. Had it done for a year and a half now.

how are you ftping to it? do you have an autoinstaller dvd that will boot even if the hard drive is unbootable?

that method works, but only with samsung, and some other optical drives, typically found in newer boxes. - again, from my experience.

what method works only with samsung? I set up evolutionx dashboard onto my box, that includes an ftp server, so i ftp **** from it to my hard drive, use my computer to unlock the new hard drive then put it in the box, boot and install evolutionx to that drive then put all my files back on such as game saves and music.
done.

youre missing a step there. before "i set up evox on my box". trust me, i know evox has ftp built in.

how did you get it on there: boot from dvd? hotswap? swap to pc? savegame hack?

the boot from dvd method - again from my experience - does not work with older xboxes, since they dont like burned cd's or dvd's. its no problem with a newer box, with a newer optical drive. i have a samsung in mine, swapped from a new dead system that does fine. since you have a 1.6, im betting you are booting from an autoinstall cd, which works great - but not for everyone icon_smile.gif

xbmc = xbox media center. its a 3rd party app, so it can only be run on a modded box.

it basically lets you make an xbox into a multimedia pc. i think the coolest feature is streaming video/music from the internet, and from other pc's in your home.

im sorry, but there are farrrrrr too many variables to write it all out for you here.

xbox-scene.com

it took me a good week of reading before i was ready/comfortable enough to go at it.

i recommend chips by the xecuter team.
