So whats out there for this thing?
it's a 95, former CHP car, and it moves already.
I'll be doing some bodywork on it during the summer, and hopefully have it ready to paint by the end.. for now it's going to be flat black (during the bodywork anyways).
I definately need a new hood, but I was thinking fiberglass or sheetmetal, if not I can always go dig through the junkyard.

The car was a taxi for a little bit, but they retired it after the drivers didn't like the gas mileage.

I'm getting it for a great deal, so I'm ready to start working on it, I just need some ideas.

Thanks,
Johnny

350, throttle body injection. 380 hp when new.. it's 10 years old with 119k on it, so I'd say somewhere around 250-280 on the horsepower...
Bags might be an option down the road, but for now it needs smog (gotta love california) and then bodywork is up next

Just going off what I was told, and this was also a pursuit car for the California Highway Patrol, so I really don't find it hard to believe..

I do, the B4C's of that year (police Camaros) had no were near that much power. And the LT1 was a much better power plant then a regular TBI 350.

I finally got the title, it's a 93, and according to a couple friends that are chevy geeks it had 320, my bad... either way I don't think it's that big of a deal to argue over.

Yeah, it is kinda funny...
anyways, back on track.
what should I do with this thing besides bag it? (which might happen sooner or later)
people with bags around here get hassled hardcore by the cops

*off-topic* blazensentra... how is that a waste of a car? Hell, people taking the time to put 24's, 26's, and 28's on their car spend a hell of a lot more money than you do getting everything perfect. I don't see how pampering a car with luxury interiors (LV, Gucci, Fendi, etc.), multi-thousand dollar sound systems, and in some cases changing the entire undercarriage of a vehicle in order for it to properly accept the larger rim/tire combo.... lol... yeah, that's a waste of a car huh? *shakes my head* don't hate on the people b/c their wheels cost more than your car.... ah, and just so you know, before you try to talk about performance, most of those cars are souped up to fully handle what's thrown at 'em. It's simply a different style, not a waste of a vehicle.

In my opinion, that is a complete waste of a car, the car that I bought was a CHP car, designed to flat out move, a performance car if you will.
putting a 6-8" lift on there completely throws off the suspension geometry, and you can't take corners for anything.
The car loses alot of performance because of adding so much rotating mass to the wheels, not to mention the brakes will need to be upgraded, and if you bag it, you'll need to re-inforce the frame...
In my opinion, it's a complete waste...
and you are correct, one of those wheels.. hell one of those tires probably cost more than what I paid for my caprice.. but guess what.. it's my caprice, and I like it the way I like it.. the car goes fast, and holds people, I don't need 26" or 28" wheels to compensate for my short-comings...
so before you go off on some silly little tangent realize that I'm entitled to my opinion, and my opinion is that thing is uglier than sin, and a complete waste of a car...

I'm in the middle of doing all the bodywork, and motor. I just got some 40 series flowmasters for it, so I'll be running dual pipes out the back, with slant-cut tips that will sit flush with the bottom of the bumper so you hardly see the exhaust (just my personal taste). probably the only left for now with the motor is a drop in K&N filter, and then change all the fluids.. california is really strict with there smog laws so I have to be careful about what I do.
but I'm not really wanting bags.. I want a reliable daily driver that has some ponies, and looks clean.. bags are just too expencive right now, with the cheapest kit starting at 1,500$ and that doesn't even include installation.

i learned that weight reduction shaves some decent acceleration.
go with fiberglass paneling and remove things you dont need like spare tires and ****.
in the 3kgt i took out the spare and rear seats and garbage that was left in there and the car's acceleration from 2k-5krmp is definately improved.
i guess it depends on if your looking for daily performance or shear performance.
you can have all the horse in the world, but if your being weighed down too much its not worth saying you have 700horse.

The Caprice is now smogged, registered, insured, and parked in my driveway.
I'll be tearing the roof down tomorrow, doing the necessary body filler, sand again, and then shoot some primer on it.. It's nice to finally have this thing parked in my driveway and I can work on it when I want too.

I'll post progress pics soon.

Later,
Johnny
