What Is COB LED Filament?

A COB LED filament is an LED light source designed to look and function like a glowing flexible slim strip. COB (Chip on Board) means many tiny LED chips are mounted close together on a slim strip, which is then encapsulated in silicone to form a slim, flexible filament that creates a dotless lighting effect.

Dozens of chips are connected in series to use a higher voltage and lower current, which simplifies heat management and allows the filament to be very thin and uniform.

The light source emits nearly uniform illumination in all directions, similar to a traditional incandescent filament. This enables vintage “Edison-style” bulbs that retain their classic look while achieving much higher luminous efficacy than real filament lamps.

COB LED Filament - 12VDC

The COB LED filament is designed to work with a 12 V DC system by adding a resistor; you just need to connect the “+” and “−” leads to the 12 V DC power source terminals to light up the COB LED filament.

Each pack of COB LED filaments includes one LED filament, a connector for easy connection, and a plastic tube to isolate the heat from the resistor.


The resistor is placed next to the connector and generates heat, so we highly recommend using a plastic tube to insulate against the high temperature for safety:
