well, me and a few buddies are gonna make caribou lou tonight (yes we are hood) and i was wondering if i could replace 151 rum with 151 everclear, im assuming you can because its the same alcohol content. i already have a fifth of everclear and i don't want to go spend more money if i don't have too. thanks.

Not if taste is important to you. If taste is not a concern, you can mix whatever you want :D

Rum and Everclear have very different tastes

151 everclear?? I thought all everclear was 190 proof.....

But yeah, the taste will be VERY different. Everclear is a nuetral spirit like a vodka and the whole point is to have no flavor. It only adds in booze to a drink, shouldn't affect the taste besides the alcohol kick.

the come in both 190 and 151, and at that alcohol content they're all gonna taste like gasoline anyway.

Or you could just drive over to Indiana where nothing is illegal. In fact, I'm pretty sure a bunch of people who live in the "sticks" make it for cheap....

We typically use everclear for what we call ***. Take some koolaid or other juice, cut up various fruit, put in big bowl, add everclear and let it sit overnight. Drink/Eat next day... Wonderful.

Also everclear and koolaid is good by itself, or perhaps some jello shots?

*** is great cause you can dump in just about any juice - kool aid, lemonade, orange juice, fruit punch, blah blah blah. You can also use flavored alcohols. Everclear is better just because of its potency usually.

yeah, its nice because a single bottle of everclear will make A LOT of ***, and get a lot of people drunk, haha.

You can use vodka or something else, but will take more booze for the same effect.

Experimenting by changing recipes around is half the fun of bartending, never be afraid to try something new icon_biggrin.gif . Bacardi does taste quite a bit different than everclear, but at 150+ proof you're not really consuming for flavor anymore so don't worry about it . You might want to add some sweetener to make up for the lack of rum if you use everclear . You can make a simple bar syrup from sugar and water, or you can add special beverage sugar or as a last resort some powdered sugar, but you'll need to stir it real good if you use powdered . Don't use granulated sugar, it takes too long to dissolve . Or you could add some 7-up, which will sweeten it up and give you just a bit of fizz as well . Make sure to add it last and don't stir much after adding it .

Hahaha. Me and aken made *** for the halloween party. We used everclear. We had a pretty good sized bowl. Well aken decides he will put the whole bottle in there. Needless to say people got drunk pretty quick lolz.

I've never heard it call ***. We actually do the same thing and call it Jungle Juice. I've made some killer jungle juice before -- and sometimes it's not so tasty. Either way, it'll always get you drunk.

Everclear was designed for jello shots IMO. The only problem is with that much alcohol, it can be hard to get the jello to "set" so you may have to experiment with the ratio of it and water.

Pretty annoying that any alcohol recipe related thread I have ever created was deleted because it was "inappropriate".

This is a "family forum" right?

I don't think that talking about alcohol is inappropriate. As long as we don't get on the topic of homemade roofies, what harm will come?

I have recently found the wonderful thing that is Patron. It's the only tequila I don't run from.
