From what i can think of, i believe this will work. i will be able to manually switch on my lights as well as have them light when the dome light fades on and off (making the leds dim on and off as well)

can any one confirm this? also any thoughts on what transistor i should use and what diodes?

Check out this thread, https://www.oznium.com/forum/topic15422

Look at the diagram on the bottom and ignore fog light stuff.

i saw that, but the problem is my tC has a common negitive. and all my switches are before the lights.

so i need a transistor to switch on the leds (and make them dim on and off)

Heres a diagram of the whole setup.

Just glancing at it I will say it won't work. When you flip the switch on, you will short across the transistor and the LEDs will "see" 12V. This will result in an imediate turn on instead of a dimming effect.

I'll look more when I get off work and have some free time.

just to be clear, i want to be able to switch it on by the switch and have it turn on when the dome light goes on (doors open or unlocked the car the dome light turns on)

I'll look into it tonight/tomorrow. Your dome light dims in and out already, correct? You also want the LEDs to dim in and out whenever they turn on (switched or w/ the dome light)?

no i just want them to fade with the dome light... thats all. (yes the dome light already fades in and out.

then when switched just turm on.

if they are switched and the dome turns on it will not effect the lights.

I have several circuits with various LED's and I wanna hook one of these to the domelight, but I don't know where the wire is. Any ideas for an '01 Cavalier?
