Viper is very well known, and I have an Audiovox Prestige 2 way pager alarm system and it's served me pretty well.

I had a Clarion UNGO alarm installed about a week after I purchased the car. Works great and was priced fairly reasonable.

Compustar makes a great alarm. I've had mine for months and I've never worried about my car since. I think the race between alarms is between Viper and Compustar. They're both great when it comes to theft protection, but the big feature is the range of the pager. So I'd give the race to Compustar because the range is way better. I know a guy with the Viper 791 XV and although the range is advertised at about 5000 ft, if we go inside a mall or building, the range drops down significantly, while my Compustar pager stays strong at 6000ft, I was in a movie theater with my car parked on the other side of the mall and when I pressed the button to lock my car, it locked it.

So Compustar is just what I feel the most safe with, but Viper isn't that awful. Whichever one you get though, buy all the additional features and accessories, like knock sensor, motion sensor, glass break, automatic window roll-up, etc. I got them all for my Compustar, and although the price was pretty high, it's worth the peace of mind, knowing your car is always safe.

Be prepared to spend around $300-$400 on the install by a reputable shop (if you do buy all the accessories).

I got a crimestopper alarm with remote start. Had it since december of 00. I love it. and great warranty. Had a problem with the shock sensor, it got replaced right then and there, had a problem with I dunno what icon_lol.gif and they replaced the whole brain of the alarm right there. I know there should be no problems at all, but good to know that I can just go right in and have the malfunctioning part replaced
